Craft Bookbinding
The objectives of the Guild are to promote, foster and practise the art of bookbinding in its traditional form and to embrace the related graphic arts and kindred arts. In particular, the Guild aims to preserve the skills of craft bookbinding and to promote their use in both traditional and new ways of making books. For more details and samples of craft bookbinding see What is Craft Bookbinding?

A number of bookbinding equipment and material suppliers support our activities by placing advertisements in our newsletters and on this website. Please show your appreciation by visiting their websites.

Meetings and Workshops

The Guild holds monthly meetings at which experts talk on, and demonstrate, subjects of common interest. In addition, weekend workshops are held where members have access to the Guild's extensive range of tools and equipment.

Courses, Festivals and Demonstrations

The Guild also runs courses on introductory and intermediate bookbinding. Members are encouraged to participate in Arts and Crafts festivals and public demonstrations wherever possible.

Newsletter

All members receive a quarterly newsletter which contains topical news, reports of meetings and technical articles. New members will receive all the newsletters for the year in which they join.

Library

Members of the Guild can borrow books, videos, etc., from our extensive library. A library catalogue is available online.

Equipment

The Guild owns various pieces of bookbinding equipment such as a guillotine, a gold blocking press and type, which can be used by members. Also available is a growing range of finishing tools which can be borrowed.

Materials

One of the benefits of membership of the Guild is the opportunity to buy, through our Purchasing Officer, small quantities of materials which are not normally available to individuals. This service is particularly useful for country members.
