About this event
Tutor: Ken McKeon
The cloth book repair course moves on from the Paper and Section Repair Course. The repair course will cover a broad range of repair from simple cleaning to rebacking and rebinding with a focus on what is best for the book. Often simply re-enforcing a bumped corner might be enough. Other times if the spine and hinge are damaged, a reback might be more appropriate. If sewing is broken, pulling a book down may be necessary. Repairing existing books and using as much of the existing materials as possible can be daunting but very doable – but you need to consider the existing materials suitability and repairability and why you want a repair.
We will provide suitable books to work on but you may bring your own book to be assessed for suitability.
Attendance at the paper repair course is not essential but a knowledge of paper repair would be a great advantage.
You should bring your own tools. Materials will be provided.
